What should you charge?

Put in what your business costs a month and how long a service takes. You get the price to charge and how many clients a month cover your costs, in dollars or lira. Nothing to sign up for.

Filled in with an example: a salon with two chairs. Replace the numbers with yours.

What you pay every month

Whether you are busy or not.

Everyone you pay, yourself included if you take a salary.

Generator, electricity, water, internet.

Marketing, subscriptions, loan payments, supplies you do not count per client.

Lira to one dollar. Change it if you use another rate.

How the price is worked out

  1. 1

    Add up the month

Rent, salaries, bills and everything else, turned into dollars at your rate. This is what the business costs whether anyone walks in or not.

  2. 2

Spread it over the time you actually sell

Your open hours times how busy you are. An empty chair still pays rent, so the hours somebody books carry the hours nobody does.

  3. 3

    Add what one client uses

Products are counted per client, so a service that uses more costs more.

  4. 4

Add your profit and round up

Profit is a share of what the client pays. The price is rounded up to a whole dollar so rounding never eats into it.

Questions

Is a 40% profit the same as a 40% markup?
No. Here 40% profit means you keep 40 cents of every dollar the client pays. A 40% markup on your cost leaves you less than that. Most owners think in profit, so that is what the calculator uses.
Should I enter my costs in dollars or lira?
In whatever you pay them in. Each cost has its own switch, the calculator converts at the rate you type, and the price is shown in both.
Why does being less busy make my price go up?
Because rent and salaries do not shrink when the chair is empty. If half your hours are booked, those booked hours carry the cost of the empty ones.
What if I sell several services?
Work each one out on its own. The costs are shared, so the break-even here assumes the service is the only thing you sell. With several services you need fewer clients of each.
Is what I type saved or sent anywhere?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing leaves it.
